Goebig is the last known survivor of the Resillian race after their homeworld was destroyed by the Annihilation Wave. Goebig was off-planet at the time of the attack and has spent years wandering space, hoping to find other survivors.
When Agatha Harkness manipulated Wiccan’s powers to cast a reality-altering spell, Goebig was plucked from his life and inserted into a new fabricated reality where he and Hulkling were lovers. The spell was eventually broken and Goebig was returned to his true life, but with his memories of that other reality and his feelings for Hulkling still intact.
Goebig sought out Hulkling’s aid to return to the ruins of Resillia and recover a device known as the Knowledge Grid, which contained the collective record of their world’s history, science and culture. Goebig wanted to share that knowledge with the universe, as a tribute to his fallen people, but he required assistance retrieving the Knowledge Grid due to the interference of King Arasmer, self-proclaimed ruler of the fallen worlds, who laid claim to the remains of Resillia.
Wiccan was very uncomfortable about working with his husband’s former lover, especially given the guilt over how his own powers and insecurities were responsible for creating that relationship in the first place, though Goebig respected that Hulkling and Wiccan were together now. During the mission Wiccan and Goebig got past their tensions and became friends.
Goebig was later recruited by General Xavin to join the Light Brigade, an interstellar peacekeeping and rescue force. He was serving with the Light Brigade when they assisted Karolina Dean of the Runaways to get medical treatment to restore her fading powers.
Goebig is noted as being kind, brave and loyal, and possesses superhuman strength. Like his fellow Resillians, Goebig is also a skilled engineer and constructed his own interstellar vessel (the New Resillia) with the help of his fathers, to travel the stars.
