The first issue of Young Avengers debuted in April 2005. Gay readers picked up on writer Allan Heinberg’s romantic innuendo between Hulking and Wiccan (formerly Asgardian) and they were soon revealed to by in love. Almost seven years later the boys get their first on panel kiss! I’d have been so peeved if a kiss between the boys didn’t happen before this series ended, especially after Teddy full on kissed a homophobe villain back in one of the first several issues. Thanks to Heinberg, Cheung, Breevort, Alonso, and Quesada – did I leave any one out who might deserve credit? Oh, the cranky guy down the hall in 6B maybe? – for finally making this happen. These boys get more action than Rawhide Kid – and without a mature readers label to boot!
