Los Angeles, CA (March 27, 2018) – Dauntless Studios announced today the April 17 digital release of the Palm Springs International Film Festival favorite THE CONCESSIONARIES MUST DIE!, a charming comedy that salutes great film, historic theatres, comic book culture, and all things nerdy. Fittingly, the film was Executive Produced by living legend and comic book godfather Stan Lee. The film debuts on digital and cable VOD platforms (iTunes, Google, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, XBOX, Sony PlayStation, Steam, DirectTV, INDemand, Dish) on April 17 and on DV later this spring.
On the brink of their beloved single-screen independent movie theater being shut down forever, a misfit band of theater employees face competition from a nearby megaplex, corporate evil, unemployment and the unthinkable: having to decide what they want to be when and if they ever grow up.
The film stars David Blue (SGU Stargate Universe, Ugly Betty) Talia Tabin (Parks and Recreation, New Girl), and Cosby Siringi (Wizards of Waverly Place, Roommates). THE CONCESSIONAIRES MUST DIE! was directed and produced by America Young (Girls! Girls! Girls!, Damsels and Dragons) and was written by John Keating (Anger Management, Criminal Minds) and Sam McCoy. In addition to Stan Lee, the film was produced by Ron Eli Cohen (9/11, The Divorce Party, Selection) Marc Cote (Big Little Lies, DALLAS BUYERS CLUB), Zakareth Ruben (Ant-Man, 52 Seconds), Jason Dibler (CSI: NY, Home Sweet Home, My Dear) and April Wade (Girls! Girls! Girls!, Damsels and Dragons).
In THE CONCESSIONARIES MUST DIE!, Scott Frakes (David Blue) is the first among equals in a group of movie-loving misfits that includes jaded and frequently intoxicated former child star Ashley (Talia Tabina), shy guy wingman RJ (Cosby Siringi), semi-clairvoyant projectionist Jon Dorn (John M. Keating), and embittered theatre owner Gabby (Zakareth Ruben). They all adore their iconic one-screen theatre, despite slow ticket sales and impossibly difficult patrons, and must band together to save it when a massive theatre chain opening across the street threatens to run them out of business. From BRAVEHEART to THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, and THE PRINCESS BRIDE to BATMAN BEGINS, THE CONCESSIONAIRES MUST DIE! is a subtle (and occasionally not so subtle) nod to fan favorites and nerd classics across all genres of cinema. Real-life comic book hero Stan Lee serves not only as Executive Producer of the film, but also turns in a trademark appearance as Scott’s Silver Age comic book-collecting grandfather. Concessionaries Must Die! starts as an homage to comic books and classic movies but becomes its own real-life hero story.
Absurdly charming and heartfelt, Concessionaries Must Die! explores the lives of adults forced to ask themselves “What do I want to be when I grow up?”, when pretending to be pop culture icons ends up not being a viable long-term career. The film appeals to anyone who has ever had the realization that real life cannot be summed up in classic movie one-liners, and sometimes, you must become the hero of your story to win the day.
