LGBT Documentary Explores the Secret Lives of Superheroes & Their Creators
Secret Identities launches Indigogo to Complete Film
Los Angeles (November 13, 2014) – After ten years of interviews with visionary artists and writers of the comics industry the producers of Secret Identities have launched an Indiegogo campaign to build anticipation for the release and raise a small amount of funds for post-production of the film.
“There are so many more people we would like to interview, but we’re long overdue to release the movie,” said director Mike Phillips. “ We’ve already had a few of our artists pass on and we are eager to get this on screens small and large to recognize their talents and contributions to the art and history of comics. We’re in the process of organizing and editing the footage, but it would go a lot faster if we had just a little more resources.”
The film features interviews with Phil Jimenez, Trina Robbins, Eric Shanower, Ethan Van Sciver, Andy Mangels, Joe Phillips, Roberta Gregory, Donna Barr, Ed Luce, Dan Parent, Jeff Krell, Justin Hall, Steve Niles, Ivan Velez, & many more! The recording of the film is nearly complete, with only a few essential visionaries, such as Howard Cruse, to still be interviewed. The organization and sequencing of the draft edit has already begun. The scope of the film has covered a decade so some footage needs to be enhanced for larger screen resolutions. Motion graphics need to be designed and animated to incorporate artwork from over a century of publishing. Also the completed film needs to mastered and encoded for physical media and online streaming.
Help promote the movie by sharing links or making a donation. Any contribution is appreciated and we have many ways to express our appreciation through recognition and memorabilia. This film is as much about the love of comics fans as it is about the talent and artistry of the creators who opened the door for LGBT characters and storylines. Secret Identities is a film that belongs to you and will only happen with your support.
