Sometimes referred to as “the devil’s daughter”, Satana Hellstrom is a succubus who is half human and half demon; born to a human woman and the demon Marduk Kurios. While Satana was a young child, her mother went insane and later died after witnessing Kurios reveal his true demonic form. Satana’s older brother Daimon was sent to an orphanage, while Satana was taken to a hell dimension to be trained in the use of her demonic powers.
Once she was fully grown Satana returned to Earth, where she began harvesting human souls. As a succubus Satana can kill her victims with a kiss, which shrivels their bodies and sucks their soul out in the form of a butterfly which she then captures and consumes. She would frequently pose as a prostitute to meet her victims.
Satana eventually turned against her father, and fought to seize control of his hell-realm for herself. She has been killed more than once over the years, but as a supernatural being death is more of a temporary inconvenience to her. Satana has often used her mystic powers to fight the forces of evil, but is typically motivated by her own agenda rather than any sense of heroism and has allied herself with heroes and villains alike, as well as selling her services as an occult expert.

For a time she was compelled to join Luke Cage’s Thunderbolts team, that functioned as a work release program for super-villains. Sometime later she was a member of a west coast incarnation of the Masters Of Evil who battled Kate Bishop’s West Coast Avengers team. These days she is the proprietor of her own nightclub, the 2nd Circle, which caters to both human and supernatural clientele in Las Vegas.
Satana is a powerful sorceress, and her demon hybrid nature grants her other abilities such as superhuman strength, flight, and blasts of hellfire. She also has the ability to alter her appearance, sometimes she has incredibly long eyebrows that extend up above her head and resemble horns; other times she manifests actual horns out of her skull.
Although we have never seen Satana form a serious ongoing romantic relationship, she has engaged in short flings with a number of men and women, such as Namor the Sub-Mariner, and the Asgardian warrior Angela.
Satana first appeared in Vampire Tales #2 (1979) by Roy Thomas and John Romita Sr.
