Muzzle Hackett was conceived as part of an experiment to create a human-symbiote hybrid. When the baby was born with a large symbiote mouth, including fangs and a prehensile tongue, Elaine Hackett couldn’t cope and abandoned Muzzle with her parents. Dory and Grover Hackett raised Muzzle in their home in Seminole Country, Oklahoma, but Muzzle became an outcast due to their inhuman appearance and later their transgender presentation.

Once grown Muzzle moved to New York City and ended up joining a Robin Hood-esque group of queer anarchists called The Commune. During a heist at Stark Unlimited Pharmaceuticals, Muzzle and The Commune were interrupted by Spider-Man, who believed they were terrorists stealing components for a bio-weapon. Muzzle battled Spider-Man to allow the other members of the Commune to escape, and succeeded in subduing the hero. Muzzle was shocked and intrigued when Spider-Man recognized Muzzle’s symbiote attributes, since Muzzle was ignorant of their true nature. Unfortunately Muzzle had to flee and didn’t have time to question Spidey further on the subject, but suggested that he could fill in the details next time they cross paths.

Muzzle’s mouth and tongue have the power to absorb and mimic the properties of things they come in contact with. After Spider-Man tried to web Muzzle’s mouth shut, Muzzle was able to shoot webbing out of their mouth, and was able to electrify their tongue after biting into Spidey’s web-shooter. Muzzle also has the ability to heal other people’s injuries by licking the wound and transferring the injury to Muzzle’s body instead.

Muzzle has yet to reappear since this initial story, and nothing has been revealed yet about who was behind the experiment to create a human-symbiote hybrid, or how Elaine Hackett got away from the experiment for Muzzle to be raised by the grandparents rather than in a lab.

Muzzle is transmasculine but their preferred pronouns were not identified in the story. I have chosen to use they/them pronouns for the purposes of this profile, but hopefully future appearances will clarify.
