Mitch Sekofsky

Contributed by Ronald Byrd

Mitch Sekofsky is among the support crew at Belle Reve Prison, a federal penitentiary designed to hold superhuman criminals and, originally, home base for the primarily ex-criminal government super-team called the Suicide Squad. As Chief of Maintenance at Yeager Air Base (attached to Belle Reve via a shuttle system), Mitch oversaw the aircraft used by the Squad. Mitch admitted his homosexuality to himself somewhat late in life, having come out not long before his introduction to readers. He has an ex-wife, Laura, with whom he is on reasonably good terms, and at least three children, the oldest of whom, Jim, had a difficult time dealing with his father’s revelation. Like most of the Belle Reve staff, Mitch tended to take third billing to the heroes and villains on the Suicide Squad and faded from the scene when the Squad went independent. His current activities are unknown.

Sekofsky first appeared in and was confirmed gay in Suicide Squad #19. The character made two other appearances in Suicide Squad #21 and #31.
