LGBT Previews June 2015

Hey! Hi! Nice to see you again!

Some new monthly comics added this time around! You’ve read about it at CBR, Comics Alliance, and other places — Renee Montoya is FINALLY returning! Look for her as Harvey Bullocks’ new partner in Detective. I know you’re saying “Be careful what you wish for”, especially from DC of the past 4 and a half years. Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato were really outstanding together on Flash so I’m optimistic with how they’ll handle Montoya now. Marvel is reviving Runaways with Lumberjanes writer Noelle Stevenson as part of its massive event. Enjoy it while it’s here because who knows what Marvel’s universe will look like once the dust begins to settle. Also, over at DC is the first issue of the new Midnighter series from Steve Orlando and ACO along with Sinestro and Green Lantern: Lost Army!

Ant Man’s newish monthly comic would appear here because GL contributor Mike McDermott told me there’s been a sighting of a gay character who may become part of the supporting cast — but it takes a break for June. Are you thinking of a size related joke? Finding an LGBT character or two in Black Canary won’t surprise me since writer Brendan Fletcher from Batgirl is involved with it and Annie Wu illustrated the Kate Bishop Hawkeye stories that had a gay couple. Just mentioning it here as a heads up in case you want to look through issues in your comics shop.

Not to be forgotten – Liz Prince (Tomboy) writes Clarence, a kid oriented mini, and Curt Pires (of Black Mask’s Mayday with a trans character) starts The Fiction, both for Boom. And the first issue of the new Archie comic is listed because I wonder if we’ll see Kevin Keller here. Missed out on Massive – Gay Erotic Manga & The Men Who Make it? Fantagraphics comes out with a second edition. And First Second relists Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki’s beautiful This One Summer. Indy favorite Hopeless Savages returns!

Oh, yeah, George Perez’s Wonder Woman run gets the deluxe omnibus treatment too!

We’ve gone ad free since the site’s redesign was unveiled! You can help support this site with each and every purchase at Amazon’s website by bookmarking this link for future purchases of anything Amazon sells or buying any of the trades and graphic novels included below that get your attention! You’ll still pay the same price no matter what! Thank you!

Curt Pires is a fountain of fascinating ideas, and we’re excited to publish his latest offering, The Fiction. Fans of titles like Locke & Key and The Unwritten will take to its story about a group of childhood friends who discover doorways to other worlds through a set of strange books. Bringing this story to life is David Rubin, who Paul Pope dubbed “…a big talent and the real deal.” Four childhood friends discover a box of strange books that, when read aloud, can transport them to the beautiful, imaginary worlds described within. But when one of them goes missing, the others vow never to reveal where they’ve been and what they’ve seen. Years later, when one of the remaining kids, now an adult, also mysteriously disappears, it’s up to the last two of the group to dig up their dusty books to find him and finally figure out what happened to their friend all those years ago.[Pires is the writer of Mayday from Black Mask above, which has an LGBT character.]
