Joon-Sung (Justin) Jin is a Korean-Canadian teenager, and the grandson of Jin-Moon Ho, the Juggernaut of South Korea. As the Juggernaut, Jin-Moon fell under the control of the extra-dimensional entity Cyttorak and was forced to adopt the name Taiko and align himself with the Japanese Imperialist forces occupying Korea at that time. Taiko finally rebelled when he was ordered by Cyttorak to destroy his home village, which prompted Cyttorak to choose a new Juggernaut–Cain Marko–who killed Taiko in battle. His son Jung-Woo struggled under shadow of Taiko’s legacy and grew up to be a bitter and broken man. Jung-Woo and his family eventually moved to Vancouver, Canada, but when Justin was five years old his parents divorced and Jung-Woo moved back to Korea.
When Justin was seventeen his father was killed and he received a package of his father’s belongings. Among them was a fragment of the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. Not realizing what it was, Justin touched the artifact and was immediately empowered with the vast strength and invulnerability of the Juggernaut! Justin’s mother then revealed to him his family’s history, including how his father had refused to take on the power himself out of shame over his own father’s actions.
While still reeling from all of this Justin was attacked by Malphegor, a disciple of Cyttorak who wanted to take the power of the Juggernaut for himself and who had murdered Justin’s father, not realizing that Jung-Woo had already sent the gem fragment to his son. Justin defeated Malphegor and rejected Cyttorak, who attempted to manipulate him into becoming his new avatar. Justin instead chose to embrace his new power to became a superhero as Kid Juggernaut.
While the past Juggernauts have been characterized by anger and aggression, Justin is a gentle giant who is sweet and kind. He is very exuberant and tends to be a bit naive, but he is also very brave and will not hesitate to throw himself in harm’s way to help someone.
Kid Juggernaut has been recruited into the new Avengers Academy, where he is learning how to use his powers. He has become especially close with the mutant Escapade, and with his roommate Aaron Fischer (Captain America of the Railways), with whom he shares a mutual attraction.
