Hey, let’s celebrate the New Year! And never mind it’s already past the middle of January, okay? What better way to celebrate than with some graphic novel giveaways? Okay, sure, there are bigger items to giveaway and I’d love to give a trip to Hawaii, but let’s not hold our breath unless somebody can hook me up with free plane tickets. Still with me anyway? Good!
There are two graphic novels up for the giveaway! The first is Kris Dresen’s She Said that was published last year. Dresen describes it as the story of a relationship told in sound bites. Her description is overly simplified. If you know Dresen’s work then you know she has an ability for honing in on and conveying the essence of a moment or emotion that is truly remarkable. And this is a perfect chance to get to know her work in case you are unfamiliar. David Kelly’s Rainy Day Recess is the second giveaway. Rainy Day Recess is a compilation of Kelly’s Steven’s Comics told the coming of age stories of a young boy on the cusp of coming out. The stories originally appeared in gay and alternative papers between 1995 and 1998, and some were later published in comic format. Those were a little challenging for me to find when I first heard about Steven 8 or 9 years ago. Feel free to read my thoughts about Rainy Day Recess here.
Here are the rules. To enter the giveaway you must make a comment. You can mention something you like about Dresen or Kelly or why you’re curious about their work. Or make a suggestion of something you’d like to see on the site or a comment about LGBT creators in comics.
