This week artist Joe Phillips, well known for his illustrations of sexy heroes, made news for the wrong reason when it became known the he was facing a foot amputation that arose from diabetes complications. The surgery has happened and Joe is recovering in UCSD Medical Center in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego where Phillips makes his home. In his last Facebook update as of Thursday night, he says he’s doing well though there had been a “small scare due to blood loss during surgery” and he’d returned to his regular hospital room after a short stay in ICU. We wish Joe a speedy recovery, a positive attitude in rehab, and a future without further diabetes complications.
Joe also does not have insurance and will be facing lots of bills for this life saving surgery. Two options are available if you’d like to help Joe.
